About Roadinfo and the data
Roadinfo is the website of Færð og Veður (Iceland Road Conditions), an independent app made in Iceland by Meðalheimur ehf. It is not run by Vegagerðin or the Icelandic Met Office.
Road conditions, closures, road weather stations and webcams come from Vegagerðin’s open data. Weather warnings come from Veðurstofa Íslands. We fetch them through our own servers and check for updates every 5 minutes.
Each road shows when Vegagerðin assessed it. On a calm day that is often early morning; in bad weather it changes through the day. When we can’t reach the data we say so, and never show a road as clear because data is missing.
A road shown as easily passable is Vegagerðin’s assessment of the surface, not a promise that a trip is safe. Check wind, visibility and warnings too, and confirm by calling 1777. In an emergency call 112.
