Local notes from the Færð og Veður team
Fjarðarheiði (Route 93) is the only road to Seyðisfjörður and the Norræna ferry, and one of the highest passes in Iceland that is kept open in winter. It closes often in snowstorms — check it well before ferry departure.
Öxi (Route 939) and Breiðdalsheiði (Route 95), the shortcuts south toward Djúpivogur, only get spring and autumn service. In winter the Ring Road through Fagridalur and the East Fjords is the way south.
